About

Hi!
I’m Hauke, a Technical Artist at Deck 13. My job is to ensure that the game artists’ vision shines and runs smoothly on every supported platform. To that end, I profile and optimize performance, help define and document workflows, and create and refine any necessary tools. From time to time, I dabble in the artistic side of technical art, especially when there’s an opportunity to create procedural content or write shaders.

In my day-to-day work on actual projects with actual deadlines, I don’t always have time to explore every topic I come across. This blog is a way for me to do that. Writing about them gives my otherwise chaotic and aimless experiments some structure, ensures that I can look up the results later, and, ideally, helps others learn about them.

When I was getting into game development, reading blogs and dev logs was essential for learning the tricks and techniques that others used. Every day, as I figure out solutions to new and old problems, I stand on the shoulders of giants. I hope this blog can serve as a stepping stone for others as well.
